"My name is Esteban, I am 8 years old, and I was diagnosed with profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. I use an Advanced Bionics Cochlear Implant in my right ear, which has allowed me to connect with the world of sound.
I am very friendly and, above all, happy. Although my journey has not been easy, my family, especially my sister, has been a great source of support every step of the way. My therapist and my speech-language pathologist are always encouraging me to reach new goals.
Even though the world may see me differently, I always share my story about my Cochlear Implant. There are still barriers that we face every day, but now I can enjoy every sound: the waves of the sea, movies, music, birds singing, and the voices of the people I love.
I enjoy going to school because every day I learn something new, play with my friends, and share special moments with my teacher. In the beginning, it was not easy, but with dedication and support, I was able to improve my academic performance. My father says that I have taught him to see life from a different perspective.
There is still a long road ahead and many adventures to experience, but there is no doubt that my implant changed my life. Do not be afraid! Together, we will make this world a much better place."
